It is still unclear whether Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will hold another debate before Election Day on November 5.
Immediately after Tuesday’s debate in Philadelphia, Harris’ campaign announced that it would be ecstatic to arrange a second meeting with Trump.
“Americans saw the bright lights on the ballot box this fall: whether to move forward with Kamala Harris or back with Trump,” Harris campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement. “That’s what they saw tonight, and that’s what they should see in the second debate in October. Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Or Donald Trump?”
Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita responded: statement to the Washington Postwriting: “Of course. They need to be cleaned.”
Trump had previously called for three debates with Harris. Before agreeing to Tuesday night’s debate, the Trump campaign proposed several debate dates on various networks, including Sept. 25 on NBC.
But on Fox and friends On Wednesday morning, Trump made no promises to face Harris again on Fox News or any other network.
“I don’t know if I want to do another debate,” Trump said. “I don’t feel like doing that because I won the debate by a large margin. But I think let’s let it cool down and see what happens.”
Despite his candidate’s lack of enthusiasm for a second debate, Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller suggested the former president is committed to attending the proposed event on NBC later this month.
“The onus is on Kamala Harris, who needs to stop playing games, stop running and show up on September 25,” Miller said in an interview on CNN Wednesday morning.
If there is a second debate, it will not be in September. Harris’ campaign wants it to be held next month after the upcoming vice presidential debate.
“That was a lot of fun. Let’s do it again in October,” Harris spokesman Brian Fallon said he wrote on social media Tuesday evening.
When is the vice presidential debate?
Next month, Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz and Ohio’s Republican Senator JD Vance will take the debate stage.
The two vice presidential candidates will face off on October 1 in New York in a debate hosted by CBS News.
As was the case for Tuesday’s event, CBS will be using two moderators for the vice presidential debate — CBS Evening News presenter Norah O’Donnell and Stand face to face with the nation moderator Margaret Brennan.
CBS did not provide details about the time, location or rules of the vice presidential debate.
