The Democratic National Committee plans to fly a banner of an airplane over tonight’s Phillies home game to boost support for Vice President Kamala Harris, the party’s presidential candidate. The banner, which reads “Don’t Strikeout w/Trump Go to Bat 4 Harris,” will fly over Citizens Bank Park for four hours, starting at 2:30 p.m.
“At tonight’s game, Democrats are making sure Phillies fans know we must stand with Vice President Harris and Coach Walz on November 5th to defeat Donald Trump and JD Vance’s extreme Project 2025 agenda,” DNC spokesman Addy Toevs said in a statement. “That’s why we’re criticizing Trump’s unfair play.”
Former President Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s presidential nominee, will face Harris in their first — and likely only — debate on Tuesday at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
The airplane banner is part of the latest effort by Democrats to continue to link Trump to Project 2025, a conservative policy agenda that would overhaul the federal government and give more power to the executive branch. Trump has tried to distance himself from the plan, but several former members of his administration were involved in its development. At last month’s Democratic National Convention, a blown-up version of Project 2025 took the stage with several speakers, including state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia).
The DNC also announced it would fly airplane banners over football games in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The plane that flew over Michigan Stadium had the words “J.D. Vance [heart] Ohio State + Project 2025,” referring to Michigan’s rival, Ohio State, and an alumnus of U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, Trump’s vice presidential candidate. The defending national champion Michigan Wolverines, however, lost Saturday’s game to Texas 31-12.
On Saturday, a banner reading “Penn St: Defeat Trump, Fire Project 2025” flew over Beaver Stadium, where Penn State won. 34-27 victory over Bowling Green after a leisurely take-off. The plane with a banner that says (Of course) “Jump Around! Beat Trump + Project 2025” was scheduled to fly over Camp Randall Stadium in Wisconsin. Badgers beat South Dakota 27-13 on Saturday.
The Phillies lead the National League East 85-58. They return home to play the Tampa Bay Rays tonight at 6:40 p.m.
