Wisconsin, Florida Special Elections: results, candidates, updates

While in the middle of the period in 2026, over a year and a half was found, three special elections were held on Tuesday voters in Pennsylvania and in the whole country a feeling of how the political breeze blew.

At Wisconsin, the State Supreme Court will keep its liberal 4-3 makeup, despite the fact that the billionaire Elon Musk spent at least $ 20 million on the promotion of a candidate supported by republicans. Among other things, victory can support democrats undermine the boundaries of the Congress District in Wisconsin, which mostly favor Republicans.

The results in Florida also showed that Democrats exceed their results in 2024, the latest sign President Donald Trump alienated some of his supporters just over two months after the second term. Last week, the Democrats narrowed most of the GOP in the Senate of Pennsylvania, knocking the seat of Lancaster in the Trump district won by 15 points.

“In a district transported comfortably by President Donald Trump, just a few months ago they chose a better path ahead – adopting competences, common sense and willingness to bring people closer,” said Governor Josh Shapiro in a statement.

While the Democrats narrowed their losses in Florida, the Republicans still won both special elections on Tuesday evening, giving the speakers of the house Mike Johnson some of the respiratory room. Republicans will now control 220 seats in Congress, compared to 213 seats taking place by Democrats.

Here’s what you should know about three special elections:

Florida

Race: 6. Congress district (including Daytona Beach and Palm Coast along the Atlantic Ocean)

Candidates: Randy Fine (R), Josh Weil (D)

When the polls closed: 19.00 Eastern

What was the result: The fine was announced by the winner by the Associated Press at 19:30 eastern

Why were there special elections?

There were special elections to complete the place released by Mike Waltz, Trump’s national security advisor, who is apparently for an invitation to a journalist to the capture of the signal group, in which sensitive attack plans were discussed.

Places should always be in a bag for Republicans, and Trump won 65% of the votes in 2024. But a representative of the state of Randy Fine, who was supported by Trump, appeared on the right track to defeat the democratic pretender Josh Weil with a closer margin in a deep red district Rated r+14 by Cook Political Report.

With more than 95% of the registration notification, Fine was on the right track to win about 56.5% of the votes, about 13 percentage points before Weil.

Last week, Trump withdrew the rep. Elise Stefanika (R., NY), to become his UN ambassador, citing a narrow margin of Republicans at home.

“We have a small margin” Trump told journalists from the White House last week. “We don’t want to risk. We don’t want to experiment.”

Florida

Race: 1. Congress district (including Pensacola and the most extended part of Florida Panhandle)

Candidates: Jimmy Patronis (R), Gay Valimont (D)

When the polls closed: 20.00 Eastern

What was the result: Patronis was announced the winner by the Associated Press at 20:20 Eastern

Why were there special elections?

The former US representative Matt Gaetz resigned from the place when he was nominated by Trump to become the US prosecutor. Gaetz withdrew under weighty two -party pressure about a week later, but his previous place still had to be filled.

Republican Jimmy Patronis, financial director in Florida and a former representative of the state, whom Trump supported, was announced the winner on Tuesday evening in a surprisingly tight race with Gay Valimont, a junior high school teacher.

With over 95% of the notification of districts, Patronis overtook about 14 points before Valimont. It does not seem close, but Trump won the district with 68.1% of votes in 2024 and Cook’s political report gives him an unconnected rating of R+19.

Gaetz beat Valimont over 30 points in November, 66% to 34%, so at least it is a potential sign of anxiety growth in Trump and his policy in a district saturated with its supporters.

Wisconsin

Race: State Supreme Court

Candidates: Judge of the County Data Susan Crawford, Judge of Waukesha Brad Schimel

When the polls close: 21.00 Eastern (20:00 Local)

What was the result: Crawford was announced the winner by the Associated Press at 22:25 Eastern.

Why were there special elections?

The State Supreme Court race usually did not break through the national scale, but the deputy of the outgoing judge Ann Walsh Bradley may have far -reaching consequences, including potentially affecting which party controls the Congress in 2026.

There is no party connections in the race, but Crawford was supported by Democrats and approved by former President Barack Obama, while Schimel supported Republicans and Elon Musk, so do what you want.

The Supreme Court of Wisconsin has most of the liberal since 2023, and Crawford’s victory will maintain this advantage at a time when Democrats want to challenge the electoral map of the state, which currently favors the Republicans with a margin of 6-2. Republicans currently have a slight five -person advantage in Congress, which will probably be tightened more in 2026, if history is any guide.

“What is happening on Tuesday is a vote for which the party controls the House of US representatives” Musk said during the Green Bay rally on Sunday eveningAccording to the New York Times, that’s why he supported Schimel and threw $ 20 million to the race. And, like in Pennsylvania, Musk reduced several million dollars checks to random votes, which was described as an accidental hand One recipient was the chairman of Wisconsin College Republicans.
