Former President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally in Harrisburg next week, his first appearance in Pennsylvania since he was wounded in a failed July 13 attack in Butler.
The Republican presidential candidate will appear Wednesday at the New Holland Arena, part of the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center, the campaign said in a news release. It will be Trump’s first visit to Pennsylvania as the official GOP candidate and his first since President Joe Biden withdrew his reelection bid. Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who has since secured enough Democratic delegate pledges to clinch the Democratic nomination.
“Pennsylvanians are paying the price for the Democrats’ disastrous policies,” Trump’s campaign said in a statement announcing the rally. “Kamala Harris and the Democrats’ pro-crime, open borders policies are wreaking havoc in Pennsylvania,” the statement read.
Trump’s last visit to Harrisburg was in February, when he spoke at the National Rifle Association’s presidential forum, also held at the Farm Show complicated.
During a rally in Butler, a gunman fired at Trump and killed rallygoer Corey Comperatore. Two other spectators were injured in the incident, and Congress has held several hearings to try to determine how the gunman was able to get so close to the former president. U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned Tuesday amid public outrage that her agency failed to prevent the attempted assassination.
Harris’ campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
