Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick’s campaign announced Monday that he will join GOP presidential candidate former President Donald Trump at a rally in Harrisburg on Wednesday. It will be Trump’s first trip to Pennsylvania since he was wounded in the July 13 attack in Butler, at a rally that McCormick also attended.
McCormick was the last speaker at the rally before Trump took the stage. The shooting left Corey Comperatore, a rallygoer, dead and two other attendees injured. Trump suffered an ear injury and The FBI confirmed was hit by a bullet. The shooter died on the spot.
Congress is investigating the shooting and how the shooter got so close to the former president. U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle testified before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee July 22, just the day before she resigned. Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris He testified before U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee the same day that Cheatle resigned.
Trump said on social media that he plans to return to Butler for an event honoring Comperatore, but did not provide further details on when that visit would take place.
McCormick wants to oust Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Casey, who is seeking a fourth term. Fox News Poll released July 26 showed Casey leading McCormick by 13 points. The same poll showed Trump and presumptive Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, tied in Pennsylvania, a key swing state with 19 electoral votes.
