McCormick talks about 2024 election stakes during Republican National Convention speech

Republican Party candidate for U.S. Senate from Pennsylvania Dave McCormick delivered a miniature speech Tuesday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, whose theme was “Make America Safe Again.”

“Who’s ready to send Joe Biden and border czar Kamala Harris into retirement and send her back to California. Who’s ready for that?” McCormick asked the audience. “And who’s ready to make Donald Trump our 47th president, are you ready for that? And who’s ready to make J.D. Vance our new vice president? And who’s ready to send Chuck Schumer? I’m ready.”

McCormick briefly mentioned his presence at President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Butler on Saturday, where he delivered a speech before Trump and sat next to him during the attempted bombing that killed Corey Comperatore, a participant, and sent two others to the hospital. The shooter also died at the scene.

After highlighting that experience, McCormick, as he does in most campaign speeches, linked U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pennsylvania) to President Joe Biden’s agenda.

“He’s a hands-off, out-of-touch, liberal, career politician, and when he votes, he votes for Joe Biden’s boring old ideas,” McCormick said Tuesday.

McCormick also addressed issues of public safety, border security, inflation and natural gas regulation. He is the only Pennsylvania candidate currently scheduled to speak at the convention.

The PA Democratic Party sent a statement shortly after McCormick’s speech, criticizing him for trying to “hide behind false attacks” and criticizing his past. “In November, Pennsylvanians will re-elect Senator Casey, a leader Pennsylvanians can trust to create jobs, fight fentanyl, and take care of working families,” spokeswoman Tanisha Cameron said.

Earlier Tuesday, McCormick spoke at the Pennsylvania State Conference on Federal Police Order in Bethlehem. In later post on social mediaMcCormick shared a photo of himself shaking hands with Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro, praising him for his response to Saturday’s deadly attack.

Both Casey and McCormick campaigns end second quarter Reports on Monday show they each raised more than $8 million between April 4 and June 30.

The latest polls show Trump with a slight lead over Biden in the Keystone State, although Casey is still has a significant advantage over McCormick. And national ratings agencies like the Cook Political Report rate the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania as “leaning Democratic.”
