Harris campaign launches weekend get-out-the-vote campaign in Pennsylvania ahead of Philadelphia debate

Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign is launching a voter mobilization campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend. Election Day is just 60 days away, and the first presidential debate will be held Tuesday in Philadelphia.

The campaign will host about 500 events, including campaign launches, phone banks, trainings and community events, with some national Democrats visiting the state to support. The push will include a focus on the 2025 Project, which Democrats have linked to GOP candidate former President Donald Trump, who has tried to distance himself from a conservative political agenda. U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) met with Delaware County voters Friday to kick off the weekend of events in Pennsylvania, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will be in Allentown on Saturday and Norristown on Sunday.

More than 7,500 people have signed up to volunteer for the weekend’s events, the campaign said, marking the largest statewide organizing effort so far during an election cycle.

Pennsylvania, if you haven’t heard, is a must-win state in the 2024 election, with 19 electoral votes up for grabs. Trump won the state in 2016, and President Joe Biden won here in 2020. Biden dropped out of his reelection campaign in July and endorsed Harris, giving Democrats a boost in fundraising and public outreach.

Harris and Biden gathered in Pittsburgh on Labor Day, and she is in Pittsburgh this weekend preparing for the debate. Her vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, visited Lancaster, Pittsburgh and Erie this week, while Trump was in Harrisburg on Wednesday to tape an interview with Sean Hannity. His vice presidential candidate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), was in Erie last week.

This certainly won’t be the last chance to see candidates in the Keystone State as the election quickly approaches.

The Trump campaign announced earlier this week that it was launching “the largest surrogate operation in the history of presidential politics,” dubbed the Team Trump Agenda 47 Policy Tour, in which campaign surrogates will promote Trump’s platform in key battleground states. The campaign has held events in Georgia, Arizona and Wisconsin, but has not yet announced dates for the Pennsylvania policy tour.
