Governor Shapiro signs House Bill 53 of 2024, Senator Jay Costa’s LOOP Act, into law

HARRISBURG, PAJuly 11, 2024 – Today, Governor Josh Shapiro signed SB 219State Senator Jay Costa’s Longtime Owner Occupant Tax Exemption Program (LOOP). Now House Bill 53 of 2024, this program would allow the Mayor and City Council of Pittsburgh to exempt or defer property tax increases for people who have lived in homes they own for a specified period of time in certain neighborhoods where property values ​​have increased dramatically.

“After years of advocating and listening to the needs of Pittsburgh, I am so happy to celebrate the signing of the LOOP Act today,” said Democratic Leader Jay Costa. “I can’t wait to see the impact of House Bill 53 of 2024 in the City of Pittsburgh — making sure the people who built our communities can stay in their communities.”
