According to unofficial results, U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-1st District) was elected to Congress for a fifth term, defeating Democrat Ashley Ehasz for the second consecutive term.
Fitzpatrick’s victory in suburban Philadelphia could aid Republicans maintain a majority in the House of Representatives. He is the only Republican member of the state’s congressional delegation representing the district that Democrat Joe Biden won over Donald Trump in 2020.
As in previous campaigns, Fitzpatrick stayed away from Trump, who is once again the Republican Party’s presidential candidate and did not announce during the campaign who he was supporting in the presidential election. The Associated Press called Fitzpatrick’s race at 1:23
Fitzpatrick outperformed Ehasz for much of the campaign, though the Democrat raised more than the incumbent in the third quarter. Before the election, national ratings agencies rated the race as “likely Republican.”
