Former President Donald Trump will visit Bucks County on Sunday, his campaign confirmed.
Trump is expected to visit the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown. The campaign did not immediately say what time the visit would take place on Sunday or whether it would be open to the public.
The national shrine honors Our Lady of Częstochowa, an icon of the Virgin Mary that holds special significance for Catholics in Poland. The shrine has been visited by several American politicians, including former President George H. W. Bush in his unsuccessful presidential campaign in 1980. The sanctuary is run by the Pauline Fathers and Brothers and is not directly affiliated with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Trump’s campaign team said Polish President Andrzej Duda would also appear at the sanctuary on Sunday, although the campaign team said the two men did not coordinate their visits.
There are over 700,000 people of Polish origin living in Pennsylvania, which constitutes 5% of the state’s population.
During last week’s presidential debate in Philadelphia, Vice President Kamala Harris also mentioned Polish Americans in Pennsylvania, a historically reliable Democratic voting bloc, although Republicans They also lobbied for your support.
Father Maksymilian Ogar, a spokesman for the shrine, said Trump’s visit would not include any speeches or campaigning.
“Given everything that has happened in the last few days, his coming to the shrine is an act of prayer and thanksgiving to God for the failed assassination attempt,” Ogar said, noting that he could not confirm details of Trump’s potential visit.
Trump on Sunday in less than three months he faced a second assassination attempt when the Secret Service opened fire on a gunman while the former president was playing golf at a golf course in Palm Beach, Florida.
The stop will be Trump’s second in hotly contested Bucks County, a purple county and the only area in the Democratic suburbs of Philadelphia represented by a Republican in Congress. Earlier this year, Trump held a private fundraiser in the county.
Trump narrowly lost Bucks County in 2016, and President Joe Biden increased the Democratic lead in the county in 2020. But the county remains one of the former president’s best chances to regain support in Philadelphia and its suburbs.
This summer, Bucks County became the only county in the area where registered Republicans outnumbered registered Democrats. While Democrats control the county government, voters kept in office U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican with a reputation as a moderate.
