Pittsburgh, PA – March 20, 2025 – It is expected that President Trump signs an executive order, which begins the dismantling process of the US Education Department.
By condemning this unconstitutional action, Democratic leader of the Senate Jay Costa AND Democratic Senate Chairman of Education Lindsey Williams Issue the following joint statement:
“We are terrified that President Trump, Elon Musk and their billionaire, undertook the unconstitutional and unprecedented stage of dismantling the American Department of Education, and that they barely tried to hide their gross raid of our children to set their own pockets.
“The United States Education Department plays a key role in ensuring that every student, especially our disabled students, receives excellent education at a public school surrounded by adults who care about them. In Pennsylvania, we rely on the American Education Department for $ 1.45 billion in the field of education support, $ 3.3 million in the field of financing mental services and 238.1 A million dollars.
“The demolition of the US Education Department will do nothing to improve mathematics and reading and reading skills, nor will it reduce real estate taxes; on the contrary, this order will only be used to spotless our students and release indescribable discrimination without consequences.
“In addition, executive orders are not a law. They cannot change the existing law or our constitution. This ordinance cannot eliminate the US Education Department. Today’s action is unconstitutional, but damage to our students, parents and teachers has already begun.
