David McCormick’s Campaign Cites Wrong Philadelphia After Attack on Sen. Casey

Republican Senate candidate David McCormick made a political gaffe on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, and members of incumbent Sen. Bob Casey’s Democratic team quickly pounced on it before the post was deleted.

McCormick’s campaign account shared a clip from news station WLBT about an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who local police say shot at multiple moving vehiclesciting modern criticism of his opponent’s position on border security.

The problem is that the Philadelphia in the story was in Mississippi, more than 1,000 miles south of the City of Brotherly Love. Casey’s communications director, Maddy McDaniel, pointed this out by grabbing and sharing a screenshot of the post before McCormick’s team could take it down.

Another representative of the Keystone State, U.S. Senator John Fetterman, also joined in the mockery. with a repost saying“These things happen to people who live in Connecticut but run for Senate in Pennsylvania.”

McCormick previously lived in Connecticut but was born in Washington, Pennsylvania, raised in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and currently owns a home in Pittsburgh.

McCormick’s campaign admitted the mistake Wednesday night but further criticized Casey. with a post stating“We made a mistake in our tweet, but it’s not as bad as Bob Casey’s mistake leaving the line wide open.”

To prevent this from happening again, we’ve compiled a list of all the other Philadelphias we could find around the world.
