The most vital story
1. As Harris wraps up a fun convention in Chicago, her campaign focuses on Pennsylvania and the road to the White House
“Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepted her party’s nomination for president, telling the crowd gathered at the United Center that she would be a president for all Americans and would fight for their best interests, just as she had done for years as a prosecutor.
It was a triumphant end to a week that built on Democratic momentum and aimed to introduce and celebrate Harris as the party’s historic nominee with less than three months left in a bitter presidential race.“Philadelphia Inquirer”)

2. How States Are Preparing to Prevent an Election Certification Crisis in November
“New Georgia rules governing how local officials finalize vote tallies have some election observers worried that supporters of former President Donald Trump could trigger a crisis if he loses power in November by abusing his powers to delay or avoid certifying results.
Election experts say they believe the checks and balances system will undermine the effort, and that each state has the legal authority to force county election officials to fulfill their duty to certify the results. But they and state election officials remain concerned that the effort could push the deadlines too close and raise questions about the integrity of the election.” (Vote)

How Nintendo Nostalgia Is Driving a New Wave of Video Game Production in Pennsylvania. “Forty years after the cinder-block-sized Nintendo Entertainment System introduced American youth to virtual duck hunting and Mushroom Kingdom plumbing, fans remain—and not just behind the controller. Pennsylvania-based video game developers are making new games and cartridges for the NES nearly three decades after it was officially retired. They’re also making games for other consoles, like the Sega Genesis. Why?” (PA reflector)

3. Why Democrats and Republicans Think the Road to the White House Runs Through Western Pennsylvania
“All politics is local,” goes the old saying. And as the Democratic National Convention winds down, perhaps it’s time to add, “…and the road to the White House runs through Pittsburgh’s West End.”
OK, maybe not. But at both parties’ conventions this summer, often-ignored communities in western Pennsylvania had their moment on the national stage and helped define the political landscape of the entire election.” (WESA Policy)

5. Instagram adds a Myspace-like “Song on Profile” feature
“A new feature announced today by Instagram will allow users to add a song to their profile — much like Myspace did in the early 2000s.
Music added to a user’s profile appears in the bio, according to screenshots shared by Instagram. The song will be featured on the profile until the user removes or replaces it. Unlike Myspace, however, the songs won’t play automatically — people viewing the profile with the song can play and pause the song. (Edge)
