Senate Republicans have re-elected their leadership team

Senate Republicans today re-elected their entire leadership team to continue in office during the 2025-2026 legislative session.

Senator Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) was re-elected as interim Senate President Pro Tempore for the December 1-January 6 term. On Tuesday, January 7, the Senate will vote on the President Pro Tempore, who will serve for the novel two-year legislative session.

The president pro tempore is responsible for appointing chairmen and members of the 22 constant committees of the Senate and serves as an ex-officio member of all committees. Presides over Senate proceedings when the Lieutenant Governor is unavailable, and fills the position of Lieutenant Governor in the event of a vacancy in the position. The office also submits draft bills and resolutions to the relevant Senate committees for consideration.

“First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to my colleagues in the Senate for re-electing me as interim president pro tempore,” Ward said. “But more importantly, together we must keep our feet on the ground to address the real challenges facing Pennsylvania. Pennsylvanians do not want disruption or division of government fueled by partisanship; they want a sustainable government – one that prioritizes economic growth and job creation, protects their constitutional rights, and addresses the rising costs of essentials like food and utilities. Each of us was elected by voters who want us to achieve these goals together, and it is our responsibility to do so. I look forward to leading the way with my Republican and Democrat colleagues to pass meaningful legislation that advances our Commonwealth and helps the people we represent.”

Senator Joe Pittman (R-Armstrong/Indiana/Jefferson/Westmoreland) was re-elected as Senate Majority Leader. His responsibilities include overseeing the legislative agenda, developing policies and strategies for the Senate Republican caucus, and playing a key role in legislative debates. He also plays a major role in negotiating issues with the administration and the House of Representatives and coordinating activities on the Senate floor.

“I am honored that my colleagues have re-elected me to serve as Senate Majority Leader during the upcoming 2025-2026 legislative session,” Pittman said. “For the past two years, our Senate Republican majority has worked to empower Pennsylvanians and put our Commonwealth on a solid financial path. We stood together to stop the massive spending increases proposed by Democrats and uphold our Constitution. As we look to the novel session, our efforts as a 28-member majority will continue to focus on advancing the pro-growth and law enforcement agenda and growing our economy and population in a intelligent and sustainable way into the future. “

Senator Ryan Aument (R-Lancaster) was re-elected by majority whip. Responsibilities include serving as deputy floor leader, working to gain support for legislation, and ensuring Republican policies and strategies are maintained through the concerted efforts of the majority caucus.

“Pennsylvanians sent a strong message at the ballot box on November 5 when they voted to maintain the Republican majority in the Pennsylvania Senate. We are honored to represent them and look forward to advocating on their behalf for another term,” Aument said. “Our leadership team has heard their message loud and clear and is ready to work hard to support a strong conservative agenda for Pennsylvanians while serving as a check on the power of House Democrats and Governor Shapiro.”

His. Scott Martin (R-Lancaster/Berks) was re-elected chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. The committee reviews all legislation for its fiscal impact and plays a key role in negotiating and developing the state budget. Each year, the panel holds a series of public hearings with the heads of state departments and agencies to review the governor’s budget proposal and ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used appropriately.

“For years, Republican senators have fought to protect taxpayers by passing fiscally responsible budgets and rejecting irresponsible spending increases,” Martin said. “As we face significant economic and demographic challenges in the coming years, we must continue to fight to support working families and make Pennsylvania a better place to live, work and raise a family. I am grateful that my colleagues have trusted me and encourage me to continue to play a leading role in this process.”

His. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) was re-elected as majority caucus chairman. The chairman chairs meetings of the Republican club to discuss bills and amendments and to develop the club’s strategy.

“I am honored by the confidence my colleagues have placed in me to continue in this role,” Phillips-Hill said. “By prioritizing transparency, accountability and effective solutions, I look forward to working together to strengthen our communities, support Pennsylvania families and build a brighter future for our Commonwealth.”

Senator Bartolotta’s Chamber (R-Beaver/Greene/Washington) was re-elected as Secretary of the Senate Majority Caucus to oversee all executive nominations submitted to the Senate for confirmation. Will coordinate review of nominees’ education and experience and ensure submission of appropriate documentation.

“I am honored that my colleagues have elected me to serve as a member of the Senate Majority Caucus leadership team for the past four years,” Bartolotta said. “During this time, we have remained united and vigilant in advancing our shared goals, club policies and legislative priorities. I am grateful to have been selected once again as a member of this team for the upcoming 2025-2026 legislative session, and I look forward to continuing these efforts and holding the Shapiro administration accountable on behalf of all Pennsylvanians.”
