1. Do Biden and the Democrats have a path forward?

“How President Joe Biden he seems to have recovered from his disastrous debate with the former president Donald Trumpthere are a lot of questions about what might happen next.

Will Biden step aside and allow another candidate to carry the Democratic Party banner into November? Who would that candidate be… who could that candidate be? Will that be decided in the days after Biden steps down… or will it be decided at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on August 19-22?” (PoliticsPA)

2. Shapiro signs $47.6 billion state budget

Governor Josh Shapiro signed into law a bipartisan budget for fiscal year 2024-25 that delivers on his top priorities and creates more freedom and opportunity for all Pennsylvanians. With historic investments in education, economic development, law enforcement and violence prevention, workforce development, affordable housing, health care, public transit and infrastructure, and much more this budget invests in the people of Pennsylvania and solves some of the most pressing issues our Commonwealth faces. .. ..Pennsylvania is the only state in the nation with a divided legislature, but Governor Shapiro has proven once again that he can work with both parties to get stuff done and deliver real results for Pennsylvanians. After proposing an ambitious budget that invests in Pennsylvanians in February, the final product is a result of hard work and compromise from all sides, and it follows through on the Governors promises to Pennsylvanians... ..Since my first day in office, Ive been focused on getting stuff done for the good people of Pennsylvania, solving the most pressing problems we face, and bringing people together in a bipartisan manner to deliver results and Im proud to sign this budget into law that makes historic investments in education and economic development, while continuing investments in public safety and violence prevention, all while cutting costs and reducing taxes, said Governor Josh Shapiro. Pennsylvania is the only state in the nation with a divided legislature and Im proud that we came together with leaders in both Chambers and both parties to show that we can do big things together to make Pennsylvanians lives better.
⇣ Download photo‘ width=”500″ height=”333″ data-conversion-dimensions=”1″>

Pennsylvania lawmakers pushed through a wave of votes Thursday to approve a budget deal, nearly two weeks into the new fiscal year, after closed-door negotiations on Democrats’ push for more aid for public schools were slowed by disagreements.

The $47.6 billion plan for the fiscal year that began July 1 represents a 6% increase over approved spending last year, with most of the new money going to public schools and social services to boost pay for direct care workers.

The plan also calls for more money to lower the cost of a college education in a state that is ranked among the worst in the nation, as well as hundreds of millions of dollars to compete on massive new projects like billion-dollar microchip factories.AP)
