Senator Lindsey M. Williams becomes the first PA legislative office to be certified as a recovery-friendly workplace

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaJune 24, 2024 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams announced that her 38th Senate District has been certified as a Recovery Friendly Workplace (RFW). This is the first legislative office in Pennsylvania to receive this distinction, presented by Recovery Friendly Workplace – PA in partnership with Drug-Free Workplace PA and Unity PA.

“Meeting people on the ground has been a priority for my office since Day One, and that applies to both the 38th Senate District staff and my constituents,” he said Senator Williams. “Becoming a recovery-friendly workplace is the next step in creating a secure and supportive office that respects every person who walks through our doors.

Recovery-friendly workplaces (RFW) recognize that recovery from substance exploit and mental health disorders is their strength and are willing to work intentionally with people in recovery. RFWs encourage a fit and secure environment where employers, employees and communities can work together to create positive change and eliminate barriers faced by people entering or seeking recovery. Certified recovery-friendly workplaces have seen significant improvements in employee quality of life, team member retention and recruitment, and leadership satisfaction, which has led to improved annual costs.

“I am proud that my office already has one of the lowest employee turnover rates in the Senate Democratic Caucus,” he continued Senator Williams. “By working to leverage what we learned during RWF training, we can further improve office culture. My staff works incredibly hard to serve the residents of the 38th Senate District, and I want them to feel valued and supported in their lives and work.”

“The Recovery-Friendly Workplace initiative aims to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere where empathy and compassion matter and where everyone is treated as an individual,” she said. Greg Young, director of a recovery-friendly workplace – PA with Unity Recovery. “To achieve this goal, we focus on eliminating stigma, prejudice and discrimination through policy development and implementation, as well as emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and understanding through open communication and active listening. We are proud to say that Senator Lindsey Williams, her office, and her staff embody these values, and we are grateful that they have joined the RFW community in Pennsylvania! ” –
