“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
Irish statesman Edmund Burke he is often misquoted as having said this while being a British statesman Winston Churchill wrote: “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
Now that the special election for the 140th Legislative District has concluded and a winner has been determined – see Jim Prokopiak – what have we learned?
PoliticsPA looked at data from the lower Bucks County precinct and looked at the last five elections that impacted the Commonwealth.
- President 2020
- Governor 2022
- US Senate 2022
- AP Supreme Court 2023
- Special offer HD-140 2024
The 140th District, which includes Falls Township, Morrisville, Tullytown and parts of Middletown Township, has leaned Democratic for years.
Prokopiak outperformed the newly elected Pennsylvania Supreme Court Judge Dan McCaffery in 32 of 33 districts, while also ranking at the top Governor Josh Shapiro in all but one precinct – Falls Township 2-2.
Could this be considered an indicator for the rest of Bucks County? We probably want to tardy down our roll.
Although Prokopiak, a member of the Pennsbury School Board, received more than 60 percent of the vote in 31 of 33 precincts, his experience in the area as a lawyer in Levittown also contributed to his victory, as Cabanas had recently moved to the area from Lancaster County. DLCC input also played a role, but its impact may have been minimal.
President Jo Biden won the district in 2020, winning 51.7%. votes. Shapiro dominated the county with a 59.0% share, while Dream. John Fetterman he won the Bucks with 52.4 percent. However, it should not go unnoticed that the Republican trio has achieved success in 2022 – Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (55.0%) and condition Meaning. Frank Ferry (53.3%) i Jarrett Coleman (55.8%). And in House races, 10 contests were evenly split, with five in each.
The county will remain one of the purplest in the commonwealth and will be the focus of major campaigns as the fall approaches.
