The family of Corey Comperatore, the man killed at the Butler rally where a gunman tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump, will be in attendance Saturday when Trump returns to the Butler Farm Show, according to the Trump campaign.
Malphine Fogel, mother of Marc, an Oakmont teacher Fogel, who has been in a Russian prison since 2021is also expected to take part.
The US Secret Service took responsibility for the failures that led to the July 13 attack. Members of the House task force investigating the incident determined that gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to scale a nearby roof and fire multiple shots at Trump with the aid of the Secret Service.land exploit planning and deficiencies in communication and coordination with local law enforcement.
Also on the guest list for Saturday’s homecoming rally are David Dutch, who was injured in the July 13 shooting; several local emergency services; elected officials and sheriffs from Butler and surrounding counties; Pennsylvania GOP U.S. Representatives: Guy Reschenthaler, Dan Meuser and Glenn Thompson; and GOP U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick.
Tesla and SpaceX CEO and owner of X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk, who has become a vocal Trump supporter, contribution to a pro-Trump super PAC is also on the guest list and he wrote on Twitter delayed Thursday evening that “he will be there to support.” Trump’s running mate, U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), is scheduled to speak at the rally before Trump.
According to the campaign, the former president’s son Eric and daughter-in-law Lara are also taking part in the meeting.
The Trump campaign said during the rally that the former president “will hwe will honor the memory of Corey Comperatore, who heroically sacrificed his life to protect his wife and daughters from bullets on that terrible day,” and recognizes Dutch and James Copenhaver, two rally participants wounded in the shooting. “He will express his deep gratitude to law enforcement and emergency services and thank the entire community for their outpouring of love and support following the attack.”
Since the July shooting, there was a second assassination attempt on Trump in September, in which no shots were fired, at his Florida golf course in West Palm Beach.
The campaign has undergone significant changes since July 13. At the end of the week, Trump and Vance accepted the GOP nominations at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Then on July 21, President Joe Biden withdrew from the re-election campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who accepted the party’s nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August.
Trump and Harris and their candidates and surrogates have focused intensely on Pennsylvania, trying to win the state’s 19 electoral votes.
The Harris campaign is hosting a get-out-the-vote concert on Friday night in Pittsburgh, headlined by second gentleman Doug Emhoff and musicians Jason Isbell and Michael Stipe. Harris’ campaign announced Friday that former President Barack Obama will hit the campaign trail next week, launching an attack on battleground states on Thursday in Pittsburgh.
The latest poll shows Harris and Trump are dead even among Pennsylvania voters.
