August 31, 2025- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Today, Senator Vincent Hughes, chairman of the Democratic Senate, issued a statement after the announcement of Setta Tariff growth and regional railway cuts will be stopped in accordance with the general court ruling.
“Tariff growth by 21.5% with a 20% reduction of services for regional railways is not a burden that SEPTA riders should not burden, because the legislator, especially Republicans of the Senate, refuse to agree.
“I applaud both Judge Street and the mayor of Parker for entering in order to temporarily delay and alleviate the burden of the destructive height of tariffs and cuts of the services that the Republicans Senate forces on septa riders. However, we do not remember that none of these funds, or even cuts themselves were necessary if the Senate Republicans got up and concluded the contract.
“This is very disappointing when these cuts have a real impact, and yet the Republicans of the Senate still play politics with life and support of SEPA families. Senate Democrats are ready with 23 votes to get long -term financing of trains, buses, roads and bridges.
