November 13, 2024 — Today, Senator Nick Miller, 29 (D-Lehigh/Northampton) was elected chairman of the Pennsylvania Senate Policy Committee, becoming the youngest member ever to hold a leadership position in the state Senate.
“I am honored to have been chosen to lead this upcoming session,” Miller said. “I look forward to elevating our caucus’s legislative priorities and working with my colleagues to build coalitions across the Commonwealth on issues that truly matter to Pennsylvanians.”
The Senate Democratic Policy Committee is responsible for shaping and implementing the club’s future political program. As chairman, Miller will lead hearings across the Commonwealth to advance legislation on key issues affecting Pennsylvanians.
Miller continued: “Representing a district that reflects Pennsylvania’s diversity – urban, suburban and rural communities – I understand how important it is to develop policies that reach every resident. Since taking office, I have championed impactful initiatives, including historic investments in underfunded school districts through the Commission on Basic Education Financing, co-sponsoring PA SITES to transform blighted commercial properties into vibrant manufacturing hubs, and expanding the Neighborhood Assistance Program to encourage businesses to investing in our communities.”
For the past two years, Miller served as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and was a member of the Appropriations Committee, the Community Affairs, Economic and Recreational Development, Urban Affairs and Housing Committee and the Policy Committee.
“I look forward to working with the leadership team and stand ready to work with my colleagues in the Senate and House to deliver real results for the people of the commonwealth,” Miller said.
Elected in 2022 at age 27, Miller was Pennsylvania’s youngest senator in 135 years. His appointment to this leadership position marks a modern milestone in his commitment to serving Pennsylvania’s diverse communities.
