Senator M. Lindsey Williams applauds Pa House Fragment of False Claims Act; Calls on the action of the Senate

Pittsburgh, PA – July 10, 2025 – Senator Lindsey M. Williams applauds Pennsylvania House for Wednesday’s bilateral voting HB 1697, Act on the prevention of taxpayers against fraudSponsored by Rep. Frank Burns (D-72). HB 1697 creates the Act on false claims in Pennsylvania, just like Senator Williams’ SB 38, Act on the prevention of Commonwealth fraud for taxpayers’ liability.

“In Washington and Harrisburg there are many conversations about Medicaid/Medicare fraud” by units ” Senator Williams said. “But the reality is that the expansive majority of taxpayers lost to fraud are not the result of persons receiving benefits. These main losses come from the corporation deliberately lies and settlement of state and federal governments for services that have not been provided. Studies have repeatedly proved that the best way to detect and stop this level of the taxpayer’s huge fraud is to protect employees who see them and who report to report it. Pennsylvania leaves millions of dollars of taxpayers on the table, not protecting the exposurers and chasing the instructions they present. The time has come for us to introduce real protection of taxpayers’ dollars and ultimately pass the Act on false claims in Pennsylvania. “

“Making the government more transparent, available and responsible is the highest priority for me and my office” Senator Williams continued. “We want Pennsylvania to know that their government Power AND should work for them. The Rec of the Act on the riding of the Burns Chamber is a great first step and I hope that the Senate will soon take this important legal act. Taxpayers from Pennsylvania deserve this measure of security and responsibility. “

Both SB 38, sponsored by Senator Williams and Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) and HB 1697 create a version of the federal act on the false claims of Pennsylvania’s federal claims, which protects and encourage the disastrus to report waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayers’ money. The FCA federal commission also entitles you to a larger participation in federal processes of false claims. Currently, 31 states have its own FCA; Pennsylvania is the largest state in the country without its own FCA.

The Bill 38 Senate is awaiting the Health and Human Services Committee in the Senate. After passing the votes on 136-67 on Wednesday, July 9, the House 1697 Act is now moving to the Senate to consider the Commission.
