Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania − October 31, 2025 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams releases the following statement regarding Governor Shapiro’s actions to keep food on the tables of Pennsylvanians:
“I am grateful for today’s executive actions by Governor Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Davis to ensure that Pennsylvanians do not pay the price for Washington’s dysfunction. By declaring a national emergency, committing $5 million in state funds to food banks, and organizing private donations through the SNAP Emergency Relief Fund, the Governor is helping to keep food on families’ tables during the federal shutdown.
“Food insecurity in our communities affects us all. That’s why I continue to support universal free breakfast and lunch in schools, and I support Senate Democrats’ proposal to utilize $62 million from the Rainy Day Fund to assist families affected by SNAP cuts. Without SNAP, not only do our neighbors suffer, but our grocery stores and farmers suffer as well. No one in the richest country in the world should have to choose between paying their bills and putting food on the table. It’s critical to me that every child, family and senior in “Pennsylvanians had the food and dignity they deserved.”
