Senator Lindsey M. Williams a declaration of voting of the PRT board and the future of transit in Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, Pa – – September 26, 2025 -Senator Lindsey M. Williams (D-Allegheny) issues a statement after today’s regional transit Pittsburgh (PRT) to reverse the proposed cuts of services and maintaining current tariff levels:

“First, I want to thank everyone who devoted time to share your personal story about why public transport matters. Regardless of whether you spent valuable time, waiting for testimony at the PRT trial, he participated in a rally or contacted the legislator, your voice made the difference in this fight.

Today’s voting to maintain services and maintain current fees are possible only because of your spokesman. But this is a short-lived amendment. This is not a long-term, balanced solution for transit problems in our public region.

We still need Harrisburg to introduce a transit financing proposal for Shapiro governor Transit for All Pa! legislative package That I sponsors with Senator Nikil Saval (D-D-Miladelphia) in the Senate and Rep. Aerion Abney (D-19) and Rep. Jessica Benham (D-36) in the room. In order for public transit to be successful, we must create balanced financing models that support systems in all 67 poviats throughout the state.

Since I joined the PRT board at the beginning of this year, we were in crisis mode because we were working on stopping the PRT before entering the death spiral. After today’s voting, I am looking forward to strategic work on building better public transport for everyone and to tell what my voters say.

This includes restoring services to a part of my Senate district at 2019. Too much of my district was cut off from transit due to cuts of services in previous years. This also includes improving the user’s impression for all PRT passengers – creating safe and sound, available bus shelters and stops that meet the needs of all riders.

I also focus on increasing the participation of society at meetings of the PRT board and our processes. It is time for us to regroup and build the case that transit is critical for all Pennsylvania. Our work is not completed, but I can’t wait to strengthen your voices here in Alleghena and Harrisburg.

Finally, I can’t wait to strengthen the relationship between PRT and immense employers of our region and their employees. Public transport is an amazing economic driver, encouraging people to work every day. Our employers are a critical ally in the fight to restore services and I can’t wait to get involved with them, to bring transit for all Pennsylvania! “
