Senator Bob Casey and David McCormick each raised more than $8 million in the second quarter

The U.S. Senate fundraising race in Pennsylvania between U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Republican David McCormick continues to reach fresh records, with both candidates raising more than $8 million, according to the latest campaign finance reports.

McCormick’s campaign announced it had raised $8.4 million from April 4 through the end of June, which includes a $2.09 million loan to his campaign. He has loaned his campaign $4.06 million this cycle.

Casey’s campaign raised $8.04 million according to the latest fundraising report, which appears to be another fresh record for the incumbent senator. According to Casey’s campaign, nearly 80% of all contributions are under $50.

This result is a large jump for both candidates compared to previous quarter when Casey’s campaign raised $5.67 million in the first three months of the year, and McCormick raised $5.35 million and loaned his campaign $970,900, for a total of $6.32 million.

While both campaigns reported raising more than $8 million in the past three months, Casey’s campaign significantly outspent McCormick’s. Between April 4 and the end of June, Casey’s campaign spent $11.5 million, while McCormick’s campaign spent $6.67 million.

Casey’s previous cash advantage has also shrunk over the past three months. The Scranton Democrat entered July with $8.42 million, while McCormick has $8.01 million.

Although neither Casey nor McCormick faced any challengers in their primaries, both candidates were on top on air since the end of MarchThe second-quarter report was the first fundraising report released since the state’s April 23 primary, when the election confirmed the two sides would face off in November.

This race could determine control of the U.S. Senate. It is expected to be one of the most high-priced elections of the cycle.
