HARRISBURG, PA – October 15, 2024 − Today, the Commonwealth Court dismissed two of three lawsuits filed by PA Senate Democrats in defense of Treasury Secretary Pat Browne. Because Senate Republicans passed SR 334, forcing Pat Browne to disclose sensitive taxpayer information under threat of being detained by the Sergeant at Arms, Senate Democrats filed a lawsuit to affirm Secretary Browne’s decision to follow the law and withhold personally identifiable information.
In response, Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa releases the following statement:
“I am disappointed with these results, but we stand by our resolve that Secretary Browne follows the law as written,” he added. said Senator Costa. “The Pennsylvania Senate took the extraordinary step of passing a resolution holding the Secretary in contempt. The facts at this point are clearly different from the facts of the case referred to in the court’s decisions. If or when the Senate attempts to hold the Secretary of the Treasury in contempt, we will certainly renew our efforts to defeat this subpoena on the merits.”
