Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt certified the 2024 general election results on Wednesday after the State Department verified the numbers reported by all 67 counties.
“After carefully reviewing county election results, I am pleased to confirm that Pennsylvania had a free, fair and secure general election on November 5,” Schmidt said in a statement. “I thank district election officials for their hard work in preparing and conducting the elections efficiently.”
According to DOS, voter turnout was nearly 77% statewide, and more than 7 million Pennsylvania registered voters cast ballots.
DOS announced Monday that it had conducted two required audits of general election ballots that confirmed the accuracy of the results.
Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes made it a key piece of the puzzle for the presidential candidates as Republican nominee Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, spent millions of dollars on statewide campaigns. Trump won the presidency with 50.37% of the vote in Pennsylvania compared to Harris’ 48.66%.
All statewide races for rank-and-file offices were also won by Republicans, and the partisan makeup of the Legislature remained the same, with Republicans controlling the state Senate and Democrats controlling the state House. U.S. Senator Bob Casey lost his bid for a fourth term to Republican Party challenger Dave McCormick.
Under federal Vote Counting Reform Act of 2022the deadline for Gov. Josh Shapiro to sign and issue the certificate of compliance – which officially records and announces the results – is December 11. The Electoral College then meets in Harrisburg on December 17 to vote for president and vice president.
