Poll: 2/3 Democrats Want Biden to Resign

It’s reminiscent of one of the notable lines from Mad Men – “Not so cool, Bob.”

The AP-NORC survey of 1,253 adults nationwide reveals that 7 in 10 adults, including nearly two-thirds of Democrats surveyed (65%), believe that President Joe Biden should withdraw from the Democratic nomination and allow his party to nominate another candidate.

The poll, conducted July 11-15, also found that Republicans (73%) aren’t the only group that thinks the former Delaware senator should step aside. Independents — the most favored political group — topped the list, while 77% of those not affiliated with a major party said Biden shouldn’t be at the top of the list.

Among age groups, three-quarters (75%) of Democrats aged 18-44 say Biden, 81, should withdraw, while just under 2-in-5 (57%) of those aged 45 and older share that view.

The only good news from the survey is that black Democrats think the former vice president should stay in the race, albeit by a slim margin (50%-49%). White Democrats (67%-32%) and Latino Democrats (64%-33%) disagree, saying Biden should relinquish his position as the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Biden’s job performance rating also fell since the previous AP-NORC poll in June, falling from 42% to 37%.

Ex-president Donald Trump He’s faring better in a poll of his party’s faithful, with nearly three-quarters (73%) of Republicans surveyed believing he should continue in the race. Not surprisingly, only 1 in 8 (13%) Democrats agree with that sentiment, while 44 percent of independents believe he should stay in the race.

When asked about their psychological predispositions to successfully serve as president, nearly half (48%) said Trump was their choice, while only 3 in 10 (29%) said Biden.
