The most critical story
1. Harris and Trump offer dueling visions for the country on election eve. They head to Pennsylvania
“It was always going to come down to Pennsylvania.
In the final day of a presidential campaign that has made the word “unprecedented” seem to have lost its meaning, both candidates traversed the key battleground state on Monday to lay out their starkly different visions for the country’s future.
The laser focus on the Keystone State underscores how the race for the White House may hinge on Pennsylvania, a narrowly divided state that Trump won in 2016 but lost four years later to President Joe Biden” (Questioner from Philadelphia)

2. Casey and McCormick face off in a Pennsylvania race that could determine control of the Senate
“The U.S. Senate race between three-term Democrats Senator Bob Casey and Republican challenger David McCormick will help determine control of the chamber Tuesday in a battleground state contest that is one of the most expensive in the country this year.
Casey, perhaps Pennsylvania’s best-known politician and the son of a former two-term governor, is seeking a fourth term after facing what he called his toughest re-election challenge yet. Casey, 64, is a stalwart of the state Democratic Party who has won six statewide elections since 1996, including serving as state auditor general and treasurer.
McCormick, 59, is running for the Senate for a second time after a narrow defeat Dr. Mehmet Oz in the 2022 Republican primaries. After serving in the former president’s top positions, he left his job as CEO of the world’s largest hedge fund to run it George W. Bush administration and serving on the Trump Defense Advisory Board.” (AP)

Pennsylvania race as test of Democrats’ message about evolving democracy. “Republican Scott Perry was one of Donald Trump’s top allies in Congress in his effort to overturn the 2020 election. But this year, even his Democratic challenger says her message about maintaining democracy was not the centerpiece of her campaign in this increasingly urbanized — and competitive — district.” (POLICY)
House races we’re watching. “The Pennsylvania State House is currently 102-101 in favor of Democrats. Could the chamber change its mind in favor of Republicans on Tuesday? Here’s a peek at the racing we’re watching in the lower chamber.” (PoliticsPA)
State Senate races we’re watching. “Republicans hold a 28-22 advantage in the upper house, but Democrats believe they could flip enough seats to take control for the first time since 1993. Here are the races to watch on Tuesday night.” (PoliticsPA)
A majority in the Legislature and the election of a recent state attorney general are on the ballot in Pennsylvania. “Pennsylvania voters on Tuesday will decide whether to keep Democrats in control of the House of Representatives and the Republican majority in the state Senate, and they will decide who should run the state offices that prosecute crime, manage billions of public money, and monitor how that happens.” money is being spent.” (AP)
The race is on in Pennsylvania to keep voters from throwing away their ballots. “Thousands of voters are at risk of having their ballots invalidated due to simple mistakes like forgetting to date or sign the outer envelope.” (Washington Post Office)

3. The situation in Pennsylvania, in a country of electoral uncertainty
“It has been difficult to follow the disputes over voting rules in Pennsylvania this year, especially over the last two months. Different interpretations of state law have led to different rules from county to county. Court decisions, appeals, more rulings, dismissals, and new lawsuits were filed, sometimes with whiplash from week to week.
Election Day is unlikely to put an end to this confusion. If 2020 is any indication of what we will see tomorrow and in the coming weeks, there will likely be new arguments about which votes should count.” (Let him vote)
