Nick Miller and senator Marta Flynn, chairman of the policy of the Democratic Club

Harrisburg, PA – March 31, 2025 – Today, Nick Miller, chairman of the Senate Policy Committee, carried out interrogation to examine strategies that mitigate the impact of energy costs on residents along with legislative solutions aimed at ensuring reliable, inexpensive energy for both currently and in the future.

“Accessibility for energy is crucial for the economic stability of families and small enterprises. High costs are burdened by household budgets and have a broader impact on local economies” Senator Miller said. “We need to find solutions for generating, regulations and innovative solutions for the future of energy in Pennsylvania.”

“Accessibility for energy remains an insisting problem for Pennsylvania’s families. While energy resources in Pennsylvania help maintain relatively competitive costs, many households and industries are still struggling with rising energy prices”, ” – said Senator Marta Flynn. “Factors such as infrastructure, market variability and federal regulations affect price accessibility, which makes us continue to continue sustainable energy policies that support both economic growth and consumer protection.”

“As the landscape of electricity in Pennsylvania has evolved, PUC remains focused on ensuring the adequacy of resources by further involvement in PJM, public utilities and stakeholders to solve the problems of network reliability; supporting a competitive electricity market, which provides inexpensive and transparent options for consumers; and the supervisory enforcement from scheduled marketing and non -payment of business. ” – said Stephen Defrank, chairman of PUC.

Adam Walters, a senior energy advisor of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, emphasized the importance of state intervention. He explained that the Shapiro Governor’s lightning plan is aimed at satisfying the energy requirements, while including more pristine energy production resources into the network throughout the community.

“Each of these fragments of lightning plan has, in many ways, in order to solve a fundamental challenge, which I noticed at the beginning – the energy market does not generate optimal results for Pennsylvania,” said Adam Walters. “Lack of action will now threaten consumers in Pennsylvania through uncontrolled costs of media bills and will put us on a competitively unfavorable situation to attract new companies. Fortunately, we currently have a unique opportunity to play a key role in ensuring stability.”

“Before establishing OSBA in 1998, small companies were not represented in PUC matters,” said Nazaarah Sabree, a miniature company lawyer in Pennsylvania. “While residential consumers and low income had supported supporters, and large commercial industrial consumers had a private legal representation-companies remained without voice, which caused a disproportionate share of rate growth.”

“Pennsylvania and a wider region will have to build new reliable sources of generation to reduce costs,” said Robert Routh from Pennsylvania – the Council for the Defense of National Resources. “Adam has passed through six bills in the Shapiro Governor’s lightning plan, and when we are waiting for the official text, so that each of these accounts would immerse in detail. Based on the concepts we heard and a deep understanding of the problems that this packed legislation is designed – we are very encouraged and willing to see texts.”

“The diversity of our grid by means of pure energy and modern transmission is necessary to achieve lower costs – and Pennsylvania is behind most of the country in this respect,” said Chris D’Agostino of Advanced Energy United. “For example, states such as Texas, in which 30% of electricity comes from renewable energy sources, compared to less than 5% in Pennsylvania, enjoy lower average electricity rates. Pure energy and price accessibility go hand in hand.”

“Pennsylvania can also find ways to encourage technologies that make the process of heating and cooling more energy -saving,” said Seth Blumsack from Center for Energy Law and Policy, Penn State University. “Clean and efficient heat technologies, such as geothermal heating and cooling, have a wide potential in Pennsylvania and are reflected in some aspects of the BÅ‚yskawica Governor Shapiro Governor’s plan.”
