The Montana Democratic Party has announced the hiring of Pennsylvania political activist Emily Marburger as the party’s fresh executive director.

In a statement Wednesday, party chairwoman Shannon O’Brien said Marburger would bring extensive experience in “organizing and grassroots leadership” to the position, as well as a passion for “fighting for affordability and working families.”

“Emily offers a fresh perspective and proven track record of voter engagement, and we are confident she will help lead this campaign forward and reconnect the party with rural Montana at this critical turning point in Montana politics,” O’Brien said in a statement.

Marburger has been busy in Pennsylvania politics, where she worked on numerous campaigns, including helping flip a majority in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, according to a party press release.

She served as mayor of Bellevue, Pennsylvania, a municipality bordering Pittsburgh, and was executive director of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, the state’s second-largest county.

“I look forward to working with Montana Democrats to rebuild the brand and restore people’s faith in the party after years of not feeling heard and understood,” Marburger said in a statement. “I am excited to work with leadership and central committees in the 2026 election cycle with renewed energy and commitment to meeting voters where they are.”
