Vice President Kamala Harris’ first rally with her yet-to-be-named vice presidential running mate will be held Tuesday at Temple University’s 10,000-seat basketball stadium, a source with knowledge of the plans said.
The rally at the Liacouras Center will be Harris’ first stop in Philadelphia since becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race. It will kick off a multi-state campaign tour with her vice presidential running mate, who is expected to be named in the coming days. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Philadelphia suburban native, is one of the favorites to win.
The event will also be the second time this summer that the Liacouras Center has hosted a presidential rally. Former President Donald Trump held a campaign event there in June.

Former U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, chairman of the Philadelphia Democratic Party, said Thursday that interest in Tuesday’s rally with Harris is strong. The state Democratic Party, which is working with Harris’ campaign in the state, has already registered thousands of people.
Harris has drawn larger crowds than Biden since launching her presidential campaign. About 10,000 people showed up for a rally in Atlanta this week.
“People are calling every 10 minutes, saying, ‘Can I come in?’” Brady said. “No offense to Joe, he’s my buddy, but for him to go out and they let someone else in is very emotional.”
The Philadelphia rally, scheduled for tonight, will be the first of seven stops Harris will make next week with her vice presidential candidate in swing states.
Other Democrats being considered for a shortlist of candidates include U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
