Tropical Storm Debby derailed plans for Thursday events organized by the campaigns of Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
Harris and her newly announced vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, were is scheduled to appear in Raleigh, NC, on Thursday as part of the five-day Battleground State Tour. However, that event was postponed due to Debby’s impact on the region, which is expected to experience hefty rain on Thursday and Friday.
No modern date has been announced yet. Harris and Walz will reportedly hold a second event in Michigan on Thursday, according to the Detroit Free Press.
The cancellation of the North Carolina event is the second this week; previously, the Harris campaign announced the postponement of the Georgia event, also due to Debby’s impact.
Similarly, Trump’s vice presidential candidate, Senator J.D. Vance (Republican of Ohio), has postponed a trip to North Carolina planned for Thursday which would have made stops in Raleigh and Oakboro. Those events, the Trump campaign announced, were also postponed due to concerns about severe weather and have not yet been rescheduled.
Trump himself had no public events scheduled Thursday, according to his campaign website. He is scheduled to appear at rally in Bozeman, Mont., Friday.
Harris’ husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, will be in Paris on Thursday, the White House said. Emhoff is scheduled to travel to France on Wednesday to attend the closing ceremonies of this weekend’s Olympic Games, and as part of his trip, he is scheduled to deliver a speech at an unspecified campaign event on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Harris, Walz and Vance were scheduled to arrive in Wisconsin and Michigan on Wednesday, a day after the trio appeared at separate events in Philadelphia. Vance spoke Tuesday morning at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia, and Harris and Walz held a rally at the Liacouras Center in North Philadelphia that evening.
The event at the Liacouras Center was the first public appearance by Harris and Walz on the campaign trail, kicking off a multi-state tour.
The Trump campaign plans to closely follow the Harris-Walz tour this week, with Vance set to appear in several of the same key battleground states, Politico reports.
