5. Oh, Ohio! Chicken wings advertised as “boneless” may actually have bones
“Consumers cannot expect boneless chicken wings to actually be boneless,” a divided Ohio Supreme Court ruled Thursday, dismissing claims by a restaurant diner who suffered earnest health complications after a bone got stuck in his throat.
Michael Berkheimer sued the restaurant Wings on Brookwood, claiming the restaurant failed to warn him that its so-called “boneless wings” — which are, of course, pieces of boneless, skinless chicken breast meat — might contain bones.
In a 4-3 ruling Thursday, the Supreme Court said “boneless wings” referred to a method of cooking the food and that Berkheimer should have been careful about the bones because it is common knowledge that chicken has bones. (AP)
