John Fetterman loses an Eagles-Steelers bet to Mayor Cherelle Parker

It’s been a challenging few days for Senator John Fetterman.

When the Eagles defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-13 on Sunday, the Pennsylvania Democrat had to keep a bet he made with Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. So on Tuesday night, Fetterman posted a video of X reluctantly wearing an eagle hat before the U.S. Senate and declared that Wawa was better than Sheetz.

“Mayor Parker was right, the Eagles are better than the Steelers. We also found that Wawa is better than Sheetz,” Fetterman said with a laugh in his video.

“Go Birds, go Birds,” he said to emphasize his paycheck.

Fetterman did not respond to requests for further comment.

If Pittsburgh had won, Parker would have had to wear a Steelers hat all day and declare at City Hall that Sheetz was better than Wawa.

“I must admit that Eagles green looks great on you!” Parker said in response to the video, thanking Fetterman for being a good sport.

Last week, however, Fetterman made it clear that his loyalty was to Sheetz on the X show announcement establishment, saying that any insinuation that he actually believed Wawa was the better franchise was a “nasty lie.”

It’s unclear whether there will be a cheesecake vs. pierogi bet if the two teams meet in the Super Bowl.

The teams were close to the final match twice. In 2005, the Steelers lost the AFC Championship Game to the New England Patriots, who then defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX. Then in 2009, after the Eagles lost to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game, the Steelers won Super Bowl XLIII.

Fetterman and Parker aren’t the only Pennsylvania politicians to make a affable bet on east-west relations “state championship”. Last week, Gov. Josh Shapiro of Abington and Lt. Gov. Austin Davis – a western Pennsylvania native – called in to 97.5 Fanatic to talk trash while exposing themselves to cheesesteaks and the best of Pittsburgh. They agreed that the winner would receive food from the other person’s hometown.

A spokesman for Davis’ office said Monday that the lieutenant governor would keep his bet by “providing Primanti Bros. sandwiches, Nancy B’s and/or Eat’n Park smiling cookies, and Iron City beer for the upcoming lunch.”
