The Keystone State clearly will be crucial in 2026 as House Democrats chart a course back to the majority.
The House Majority PAC, a super PAC closely associated with it House Speaker Hakeen Jeffries (DN.Y.) has identified 29 districts, including three in Pennsylvania, that it will target in the next round of elections.
The Commonwealth’s three seats include the districts in the Lehigh Valley (7th), Northeastern Pennsylvania (8th), and the Capitol Region (10th). This comes after some seat-flipping triumphs Ryan Mackenzie AND Rob Bresnahan in 7 and 8 as well Rep. Scott Perry staying at 10.
All three contests were decided by 1.0 to 1.6 percentage points and are among the five closest races out of 29 scheduled for 2026.
According to the HMP notethe organization is launching a 2026 Recruitment Fund to provide time to recruit and prepare potential candidates earlier in the cycle. “We must ensure that Democratic campaigns are effective, and this can be achieved by conducting qualitative and quantitative research to develop specific messages and strategies for each race,” the memo said.
“HMP has already conducted extensive outreach and research on potential candidates across the country and will continue to do so in the coming months to ensure the best possible candidates are identified and properly equipped to defeat Republican incumbents in 2026.”
“I think we can compete in a lot of places when people find out that Donald Trump has promised to lower their costs and increase their revenues, but none of it will come to fruition,” he added. Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.), the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus told Axios. “I think it’s pretty clear that Republicans are going to overreach and that will create some political opportunities.”
The House Majority PAC may donate money directly to candidates’ campaigns, but it devotes most of its resources to independent spending that is not coordinated with the candidates.
In the latest series Representatives of Susan Wild AND Matt Cartwright each received $10,000 from HMP in hopes of defending their 7th and 8th district seats, while Janelle Stelson received $5,000 in hopes of rolling a 10.
In terms of independent spending, HMP spent $6.78 million against Mackenzie in PA07, $6.26 million against Bresnahan in PA-08, and $2.46 million against Perry in PA-10.
