Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro said on Tuesday that every executive order from President Donald Trump prohibiting voting cards would not have an impact on elections in this state.
Governor’s comments came a day later Trump announced plans to prohibit post votingThe movement that Shapiro said will be unconstitutional.
“Donald Trump can sign any executive order he wants. He will not have absolutely any influence on our choices here in Pennsylvania, and we will once again have free and fair, safe elections under the leadership of republican and democratic election officials in each of our 67 poviats,” said Shapiro at an unrelated press conference.
“People will be able to vote by post or people will be able to vote in person.”
During the Monday event with the President of the Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump said that his lawyers were writing an executive order to “finish voting cards because they are corrupt.”
Trump does not have the right to end the voting unilaterally. Each executive ordinance will probably face direct legal challenges, because the Constitution gives countries the right to establish election rules and allows the Congress only to change these principles.
There is no evidence of widespread fraud or corruption in using the voting card, but Trump has long tried to fall asleep in the safety of elections with false claims regarding postal voting, and Philadelphia is often at the center of his complaints.
Pennsylvania adopted post voting in 2019 and there was a huge employ during elections in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Trump barely lost the state after discouraging his supporters from using post voting, while the Democrats voted in a enormous number.
Despite Trump’s antipathy with the method, the increased employ of postal voting by Republicans in 2024 was a factor that drives the victory of Trump in Pennsylvania.
Republican activists hoped for this success in next year’s times, but the last wave of Trump’s attacks can harm these efforts in 2026, when the governor is in the voting card.
Trump announced his potential executive order in post voting as The US Department of Justice sought unreated registration documentation of voters from several states, including Pennsylvania.
“To try more disinformation, find out more divisions and fear among people who want to exercise their constitutional right to choose leaders in their communities and in their community, it is simply cynical and bad,” Shapiro said.
