HD-193: Wallen selected as GOP candidate in special election

Katarzyna Wallenowner of Orchard Views LLC farm, was unanimously elected as the Republican Party candidate in the March 17 special election for the 193rd Legislative District.

A York Springs resident is seeking to fill a vacancy caused by a resignation Torren Eckerwho joined the Adams County Court of Common Pleas.

The election will fill the remainder of Ecker’s term, which runs through the end of November. Wallen also intends to run for a full term as he prepares for the May primary and November general election.

The Adams County Republican Party said in a Facebook post that Wallen “is the proven leader we need to keep taxes low, protect our farms and freedoms, support our families, and deliver real results for Adams and Cumberland Counties!”

Previously, Wallen, after 20 years in healthcare working with cancer patients and their families, served as Ecker’s district director for eight years.

Democrats will choose her opponent in the special election on Saturday.

The 193rd Legislative District includes the townships of Abbottstown, Arendtsville, Bendersville, Biglerville, East Berlin, New Oxford and York Springs, as well as the townships of Berwick, Butler, Hamilton, Huntington, Latimore, Menallen, Oxford, Reading and Tyrone in Adams County. The district also includes part of Cumberland County in Shippensburg Parish and the townships of Cooke, Dickinson, Penn, Shippensburg, South Newton and Southampton in Cumberland County.
