Pennsylvania will once again be a focus for the campaigns of Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump this weekend as both candidates return to the Keystone State ahead of next week’s Democratic National Convention.
First up is Trump, who is scheduled to speak at a rally Saturday in Wilkes-Barre at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Trump is scheduled to speak at the event at 4 p.m., with doors set to open at noon, according to his campaign website.
Trump’s stop in Wilkes-Barre is his second visit to Pennsylvania since surviving the July 13 shooting in Butler County. Trump previously held a rally in Harrisburg on July 31, two weeks after the shooting, and has said he plans to return to Butler for another event in October.
In previous social media messages, Trump said Butler’s upcoming rally would honor Corey Comperatore, the former Buffalo Township fire chief who was killed in the July 13 shooting, as well as two other people injured in the shooting. More details have not yet been announced.
Sen. J.D. Vance (R., Ohio), Trump’s vice presidential nominee, was in Pennsylvania earlier Thursday when he spoke at a campaign event at the VFW in New Kensington in Westmoreland County. He will return to the city on Monday to speak at DiSorb Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of waste management products in North Philly, Trump’s campaign announced Friday.
Meanwhile, Trump will return to Pennsylvania on Monday to deliver a speech on the economy. in York at Precision Custom Componentslocal manufacturing company.
Harris will be in Pennsylvania on Sunday alongside her vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, as well as Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz. The Harris-Walz ticket will be in the commonwealth for a bus tour of the Pittsburgh area that is expected to include several stops in the western part of the state.
Harris and Walz were previously in Pennsylvania last week for an event at the Liacouras Center in North Philadelphia, where the couple made their first public appearance since Walz’s Democratic vice presidential pick was announced. Vance held his own event in Pennsylvania the same day at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia.
The tour begins the day before the DNC and is the first time Harris, Emhoff and Walzes will campaign together. Billed as an “on the road to Chicago,” the venture will include community outreach and visits to campaign events and local businesses, the Harris-Walzes campaign announced Wednesday. The DNC is scheduled for Aug. 19-22. at the United Center in Chicago.
Next month, Harris and Trump will be in Philadelphia for the scheduled presidential debate on Sept. 10. The debate, the first between Harris and Trump, is set to take place at the National Constitution Center, ABC News announced Friday. Walz and Vance, meanwhile, are scheduled to meet for the first debate on Oct. 1 in New York.
