Harris to visit Philadelphia next week with her vice presidential candidate

Vice President Kamala Harris will arrive in Philadelphia next Tuesday for her first campaign event alongside her yet-to-be-announced vice presidential running mate.

Harris campaign officials confirmed to The Inquirer that the visit will start Harris’ tour swing states with their vice presidential candidate.

The timing of the visit means Harris will likely make his long-awaited choice of his vice presidential candidate in the next six days and introduce his candidate in the Pennsylvania territory.

Starting in Pennsylvania, she hits the home state of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, one of the leading candidates to be her vice presidential candidate. But Harris’ swing-state tour also includes a stop in Arizona, the home state of Sen. Mark Kelly, an Arizona Democrat considered one of Shapiro’s main rivals for the job.

Additional stops will include western Wisconsin, Detroit, Raleigh, North Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, and Las Vegas, according to the campaign.

The campaign did not provide any further details about when or where the Philadelphia visit would take place or who might appear alongside her.

Shapiro has walked a tightrope in political equilibrium, actively promoting Harris but keeping details to a minimum about his interest in the job and its prospects.

Shapiro said Tuesday that he had not spoken to Harris and again responded to questions from the Harris campaign about whether he had submitted verification materials for consideration.

Harris’ visit will be her first in critical condition since becoming the presumptive nominee last week. She was a repeated guest during Joe Biden’s presidential campaign last year.

Her campaign had considered visiting Philadelphia the day after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, but logistical complications caused her to head to her campaign headquarters in Wilmington instead. according to reports.

Over the past week, Harris visited Wisconsin, Indiana, Houston and Massachusetts.

Asked Tuesday if she had chosen her vice presidential running mate, Harris replied, “Not yet.”

Other names on the list include Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
