Polls for the 2025 local elections have been completed and the preliminary vote count has been published. Military/overseas and provisional votes have not yet been counted, but winners have been announced and concessions have been made.
And yes, it felt good to wear blue.
PA Supreme Court Retention
The question was “Yes” or “No”.
“Yes” turned out to be the correct answer.
Judges Christina Donohue, Kevin DoughertyAND David Wecht received another 10-year nomination to the state supreme court in one of the most closely watched contests in the country. The three collected more than 60 percent of the vote to keep themselves on the court in a contest that Democrats celebrated across the state and nation.
“Tonight, citizens across the Commonwealth sent a resounding message by voting to retain all three Supreme Court justices who will continue to defend the rule of law, protect our elections and protect our constitutional rights,” he said. Governor Josh Shapiro in a statement. “Here in the cradle of democracy, the good people of Pennsylvania will always stand for freedom.”
Chairman of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party Eugene DePasquale said: “On the first election night of the recent era of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, our Commonwealth’s voters delivered a resounding message, standing up for our freedoms and rejecting Trump’s chaos.
“Faced with wealthy special interests spreading disinformation and a perilous agenda, Pennsylvania voters retained all three Supreme Court justices – protecting our freedoms and rejecting efforts by MAGA billionaires to bribe the Court.
“Tonight was an important step in building a Pennsylvania Democratic Party that can win back left-behind voters who are willing to elect leaders who will work every day to get something done for them. Under the leadership of Governor Josh Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, the party is committed to building on this momentum and winning across Pennsylvania in 2026.”
PA Supreme Court
Democrat Brandon Neuman defeated Republican Mary the Baptist55.3% – 42.7%. The Washington County Court of Common Pleas judge also served as a member of the state House of Representatives from 2011-2017. Justice Alice Beck Dubow also won her vote on retention with 62%.
PA Commonwealth Court
Democrat Stella Tsai defeated Republican Matt Wolford56.1% to 43.9%, which will reduce the GOP majority in the nine-person body to 5-4. Justice Michał H. Wójcik he won his retention vote with 62%.
Mayor of Pittsburgh
Democrat Corey O’Connor easily defeated Republican Tony Moreno85.2% to 12.6%. The Allegheny County Comptroller is the son of the slow mayor of Pittsburgh Bob O’Connor.
District Attorney of Philadelphia
Incumbent Democrat Larry Krasner easily defeated Patrick Dugan74.8% to 25.1% to secure a third term.
