Republican candidate for governor Stacy Garrity I called Pennsylvania today Governor Josh Shapiro “take common sense steps” to secure the Commonwealth elections.
Garrity’s statement followed news from the US Attorney’s Office This Mahady SackoA 50-year-old Mauritanian citizen from Philadelphia has been arrested and criminally charged with voter fraud in the 2024 federal elections by an illegal alien.
Sacko, who was ordered deported in 2000, remained in the United States and, despite being an illegal alien, allegedly illegally voted in person in the 2024 general election for federal office. In order to vote and register to vote, he falsely represented that he was a U.S. citizen.
According to a report from FOX NewsSacko registered to vote in 2005 and has voted in every federal election since 2008.
Garrity’s AP campaign is calling on Shapiro to act “to ensure voters can trust their ballots and protect our elections. It’s time for Josh Shapiro to do his job for the people he was elected to represent.”
Stating that one fraudulent vote is one too many, the campaign said Shapiro should:
- We urge the Legislature to pass and sign commonsense voter ID legislation for the Commonwealth to ensure Pennsylvania’s one-person, one-vote protection. According to Pew Research Center83% of Americans support requiring all voters to show government-issued photo ID when voting, including 71% of Democrats. Gallup poll produced similar results – 84% of Americans support requiring photo ID to vote – including 67% of Democrats. The same Gallup poll found that 83% of Americans support requiring proof of citizenship when first registering to vote – which would prevent Sacko from ever casting a ballot.
- Implement up-to-date protocols to coordinate with federal immigration authorities to ensure that Pennsylvania’s voter rolls do not include illegal immigrants or people who should otherwise be ineligible to vote. Pennsylvania currently requires a driver’s license number or the last four digits of your Social Security number, which the Commonwealth uses to verify voter status. It is obvious that this process has drawbacks. Josh Shapiro must put aside his personal dislike for the president, work with the Trump administration and do what is right for Pennsylvania.
More than nine in 10 Republicans (95%) and about seven in 10 Democrats (71%) support requiring all voters to show a government-issued photo ID when voting.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D.N.Y.) said Democrats would not “sign on” to this bill Safeguarding America’s Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE America).which requires voters to present proof of citizenship at the time of registration and photo ID at the time of voting because it is a “radical piece of legislation”.
“It’s true: The SAVE Act is not a mainstream bill at all. It is a fringe piece of legislation that has now hijacked the Republican Party, pretending to be election security, when in fact it is about laying the groundwork to interfere in the midterm elections and make it much more hard for citizens to vote.
The Shapiro campaign did not respond to Garrity’s call.
It is also worth noting that the above-mentioned Pew Research Poll also showed that 80 percent of respondents support early, in-person voting at least two weeks before Election Day; 74 percent supports making Election Day a national holiday; 59 percent advocates automatic registration of all eligible citizens to vote; and 58 percent support allowing every voter to vote by mail if they want.
