Fetterman breaks with Democrats (again), promotes Mullin to DHS

Another day, another disappointment for Democrats in Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman.

Keystone State’s senior senator broke ranks with his Democratic colleagues and voted for more progress President Donald Trump election as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, His. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.).

Mullin’s nomination appeared to be in jeopardy after the “no” vote. Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on the Senate Homeland Security Committee. If the committee were split between eight Republicans and seven Democrats, the nomination would be stuck in committee. However, Fetterman’s “yes” sends the matter back to the full Senate for consideration.

“My AYE is rooted in a strong, committed and constructive working relationship with Senator Mullin to keep our nation safe,” Fetterman wrote on social media on Twitter.

A vote in the Senate has not yet been scheduled, but could take place as early as next week. Trump has said he wants Mullin in office by March 31.

This is Fetterman’s latest departure from his Democratic colleagues. The state’s former lieutenant governor said earlier this week on the “All-In Podcast” that his party has no leader and that the party is controlled by “Trump Disorder Syndrome.”

Congressman Brendan Boyle (D-02), who some say is considering the possibility of his own Senate term in 2028, was critical of Fetterman’s vote.

“Once again, Senator Fetterman shows why he is Trump’s favorite Democrat,” he said he tweeted on social media. “He has to go.”

“Senator Mullin tried to justify his brutal attack on me. Now he wants to lead ICE and the Border Patrol? You can’t restore law and order with someone who has anger issues,” Paul wrote on Twitter. “America deserves better.”
