Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff will visit Bucks County on Sunday to meet with volunteers for Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign.
Emhoff will mobilize volunteers at a community outreach event to support his wife’s campaign, which has three offices in Bucks County and 50 across Pennsylvania.
Former President Donald Trump had planned to visit the Polish Catholic church in Doylestown earlier that day but canceled his visit.
Emhoff’s visit this weekend underscores the importance of Bucks County volunteers working to reach voters in the swing suburb of Philadelphia. The Philadelphia suburbs played a key role in President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory, and any changes could have an impact on the election.
A Philadelphia Inquirer/New York Times/Siena College poll taken shortly after this month’s presidential debate shows Harris with a slim 4-point lead over Trump, within the poll’s margin of error. Both candidates have spent the most time and money in Pennsylvania.
Emhoff was in Philadelphia earlier this month for debate night. He joined Harris on stage in a surprise appearance right after at an election event on Cherry Street Pier.
He also appeared in Philadelphia with Harris and her vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, for their first joint rally last month. They were joined by Gov. Josh Shapiro.
Emhoff proved that he could inspire crowds of his wife’s supporters.
“I told you she was ready!” he shouted to the crowd in Philadelphia after the debate.
“You won this debate,” he told Harris.
“But we haven’t won anything yet, have we?” he added. “…She showed everyone, especially Donald Trump, what a true leader is. And now we’re going to use that momentum for the next 55 days so I can name my wife the next president of the United States, Kamala Harris!”
He was greeted with a standing ovation.
