WASHINGTON — The Democratic National Committee will move forward with formally nominating a presidential candidate on Wednesday when one of its committees meets publicly, as part of ongoing efforts to hold a virtual roll-call vote ahead of the convention, States Newsroom reported.
Nomination process It’s been going on for months now as DNC committees with appropriate authority met to work out the details of the virtual vote.
The need for virtual voting was necessitated by deadlines in Ohio and some other states that required political parties to endorse their candidates before or during the Democratic National Convention, scheduled for Aug. 19-22.
After President Joe Biden’s decision decision to withdraw from the race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, the co-chairs of the DNC Rules Committee announced that “it will be the panel’s responsibility to implement a framework for selecting a new nominee that is open, transparent, fair and orderly,” according to a person familiar with their statement.
The committee is scheduled to meet publicly on Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. ET. The meeting will be streamed live on the DNC’s YouTube page.
DNC Rules Committee co-chairs Bishop Leah D. Daughtry and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said the “process put forth for consideration will be comprehensive, fair and expeditious,” according to a person close to the process who was not authorized to speak publicly.
