In the first campaign finance report since the Pennsylvania primary, Democratic candidate Janelle Stelson raised more money than Rep. Scott Perry (R-10th District), doubling her total in the past three months.
Stelson, a former longtime anchor at WGAL-TV in south-central Pennsylvania, won 43 percent of the vote win the six-candidate race in the Democratic Party nomination in April, just under $1.34 million was raised from April 4 to the end of June, spending $415,000.
Perry’s campaign just under $625,000 was raised Just over $345,000 was spent from April 4 through the end of June, campaign finance records show.
Stelson now has the upper hand over Perry in terms of cash on hand, a change from the previous April campaign finance report. She entered July with $1.11 million, while Perry’s campaign started the month with just under $790,000.
Perry, a former chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, ran unopposed in the Republican primary and is seeking a seventh term in Congress.
At this point last cycle, Perry had a significant cash advantage over his Democratic rival Shamaine Daniels. In July 2022, Perry’s campaign had $920,000 at hand, while Daniels had $55,000. Perry beat Daniels in this race by 7 points.
Last year, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) nominated Perry’s seat one of the few hopes to reverse in 2024.
National rating agencies such as Cook Political Report AND Inside the Electionsrate the race as “leaning Republican,” compared to other seats held by GOP incumbents in Pennsylvania, which are rated as “likely Republican” and “strongly Republican.” The analysis suggests the seat is potentially “flipable” for the Democratic candidate.
