Dave Oxman has never applied for an office before. An intensive doctor and professor of medical schools at the Jefferson University spent his career care for the critically ailing Philadelphians.
Now he works as a largely unknown candidate in the third Congress District in Pennsylvania, a race that has already attracted the state representative Chris Rabb, a democrat with Mount Airy and State Sen. Sharif Street, a democrat from northern Philadelphia. Both legislators served in Harrisburg for several terms, and the street is the chairwoman of the Democratic Party.
But 58-year-old Oxman from Bella Vista has already collected almost $ 300,000 for his campaign, not a petite sum for the candidate for the first time. He throws himself as an unsolved outsider in a crowded democratic basic field in 2026, in which he hopes that his experience in medicine can be an advantage.
“Too many Americans ask if our party really represents them, and believes that our leaders are disconnected or lack of courage to oppose special interests,” said Oxman in a communiqué.
A place of a very democratic district, representing half of the Philadelphia, will be open for the first time in over a decade after the American representative of Dwight Evans announced his retirement plan at the end of his term.
Oxman is not the first doctor who applied for an office in the area. Tarik Khan, nurse in the Philadelphia region, He defeated the sowed in a democratic Primary in 2021 to represent part of the northern filadelphia. Then he managed to get a place in Pennsylvania. And Val Arkoosh, secretary of the Department of Social Services in Pennsylvania and the former Commissioner of Montgomery, is a doctor who conducted a failed main campaign for the US Senate in 2022.
Oxman said that he would improve the improvement of the healthcare system in the country – and pushing the administration policy of President Donald Trump – the highest priority of his campaign. He calls the nation’s system “broken like hell” in a film proclaiming his candidacy, in which he is dressed in medical scrub. He swore not to make a contribution from corporate PAC.
“America has the greatest health care in the world, but what does it matter when so many Americans cannot get it or face the financial ruin when they do it?” He says in the film.
Oxman was born in Mount Airy, raised in Wydmor and graduated from the Medical School of the Temple University. He started working at Jefferson Health in 2010, where he specialized in internal medicine, pulmonology and critical care.
IN Interview last week Together with Inquirer Oxman said he thought the Democrats are hungry for “something different”.
“When I talk to people, there are different opinions about what a democratic party must do, but there is unanimity that it cannot be the same. So I think that being outside works in my favor,” he said.
“I spent my whole career looking after people from various environments – it should not be a surprise that someone with my origin thinks that he has the opportunity and the obligation to do something more.”
