Caring for the safety of seniors: Collett Bill would establish fatal reviews of abuse of the elderly in Pennsylvania

Harrisburg, Pa. When the abuse or neglect of an elderly adult is suspected, district agencies in aging examine the claim to determine whether such bullying or neglect occurs. However, if an elderly adult dies during an ongoing investigation, the Pennsylvania (PDA) aging department is currently without the right to track the cause of death. This missing link hinders Pennsylvania’s ability to prevent future tragedy and pull bad entities responsible.

Modeled on similar efforts in Florida AND MaineThe mortality review team will identify the connections between the cause of death and all deficiencies of research on the operate and neglect. A team consisting of a multidiscipled group of professionals and experts can also identify and report methods of improving the system of protection for the elderly, which PDA will compile and presented the legislator.
