Biden is pardoning his son Hunter even though he previously promised not to do so

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden he forgave his son, Huntersparing the younger Biden from possible federal prison time for gun crimes and tax convictions, and reversing previously made promises not to utilize the president’s emergency powers on behalf of his family members.

The Democratic president previously said he would not pardon his son or commute his sentence after his conviction in two cases in Delaware and California. The decision comes weeks before Hunter Biden is scheduled to be sentenced following his conviction in a gun trial and guilty plea on tax charges, and less than two months before President-elect Donald Trump is scheduled to return to the White House.

It ends a long-running legal dispute involving the president’s son, who publicly disclosed that he was under federal investigation in December 2020 – a month after Joe Biden’s 2020 victory.

In June, when his son Hunter went on trial in a gun case in Delaware, Biden in an interview with ABC News ruled out the possibility of pardoning or pardoning his son.

As recently as November 8, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre ruled out pardoning the younger Biden, saying: “We have been asked this question many times. Our answer is no.
