The Biden-Harris campaign has once again made clear what everyone else knows.
The “Blue Wall” states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin play a key role in the campaign and are the “clearest path” to victory.
In a note shared with supporters: Jen O’Malley Dilloncampaign manager, wrote that the only thing that has changed since the June 27 debate is the “urgency and discipline with which we must pursue” our goals.
“While there is no doubt that anxiety is rising after the debate, we do not see it translating into a dramatic change in vote share,” she wrote. “Our internal data and public polling show the same thing: this is still a race to the margin of error in key battleground states.”
O’Malley Dillon maintained that while there are multiple paths to 270 electoral votes, winning the three “Blue Wall” states is the clearest path to victory. She also noted that the campaign does not consider the Sun Belt states of Arizona and Nevada to be out of play.
“The movement we saw, while real, is not a radical change in the state of the race,” she said. “And there is no indication that other Democratic candidates would outperform the president in a contest (Donald) Trump. Hypothetical polls of alternative candidates will always be fallible, and polls do not take into account the negative media environment that every Democratic candidate will face. The only Democratic candidate for whom this is already built in is President Biden.”
Some ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll released on Thursday indicated that two-thirds of respondents believe Biden should resign as the Democratic nominee.
Despite this bias, the national poll results are within the margin of error, with Trump leading Biden 47-46 percent, while among registered voters the results were tied at 46-46 percent.
“Nobody is denying that the debate was a failure,” O’Malley Dillon said. “But the president and this team have dealt with failures before. We have a clear view of what we need to do to win. And we will win by moving forward, united as a party.”
