The most significant story

1. Despite the risks, Pennsylvania is rushing into the era of carbon capture

“After months of debate and negotiation, Governor Josh Shapiro signed a bill that would make Pennsylvania a leader in efforts to slow global warming by capturing climate-damaging emissions from power plants and injecting that carbon dioxide deep underground.

But armed with reports that the fossil fuel industry is vastly overstating the technology’s potential while downplaying its risks, environmentalists are calling on a divided state legislature to repeal the bill.PennCapital-Star)

ELECTIONS

“The Automotive Industry Workers’ Union supported on Wednesday Vice President Kamala Harris for president, giving her union firepower for a likely November contest against Republicans Donald Trump.

UAW President Shawn Fain said in a statement that the union’s “mission” in this year’s election was to defeat Trump. The union has more than 1 million busy and retired members with a robust base in states Democrats call the “blue wall”: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.” (AP)
